Basics about our home

Please know that we do our very best to have everything you need and in good condition.  Sometimes renters walk away or break items without letting us know and if we’re missing something or have too few of something we do apologize.  As soon as we’re aware of anything that’s lacking….we try and fix it or replace it quickly.  If you need more of something from toilet paper to towels….let us know as we try to keep extras in the owners closet.

Internet and Wifi

First thing to know….there are VERY few options for internet in Mammoth.  We have Optimum (was Suddenlink) and they are about the only game in town.  While their speeds have improved, it can get slow on crowded holiday weekends when everyone in town is on the same basic internet.  Unfortunately we have no way of making it faster.

We will provide the wifi name and password in the welcom email.

If the wifi isn’t working here are some steps from  Suddenlink/Optimum to restart the modem:

Restarting your modem and/or router will often resolve connectivity issues.

  1. Find your modem. It will be connected to the coax cable from the wall in the downstairs bedroom
  2. Unplug your modem from the power by disconnecting the power cord from the back of the modem.  Leave it unplugged for several minutes
  3. Plug the power back into your modem
  4. Check your Internet connection by opening a new web browser window.

Heaters:

Our condo and all of Bigwood is only electric.  The heaters work very well but if they haven’t been on for a while before your stay it can take a while.  Mammoth can obviously get VERY cold and the heaters take a while if the condo hasn’t been used.  Please know that they all have overheat sensors so it’s best not crank them to 10.  Turn them on about half way and give them some time so they don’t turn off automatically (rare)  Before you know it the condo will be toasty.

In case any of the wall heaters stop working we also have portable heaters to use as needed.  Again keep in mind that it takes a while to get warm (if starting from really cold) but it will get warm.

Hot water heater

We have a fairly new 40 gallon electric water heater.  It works very well…..but it’s 40 gallons (as they all are in Bigwood).  It’s very rarely a problem but when there are groups of 6 and they all want to take showers….you may run out of hot water and it takes a while to fill the heater.  If people are taking showers at the same or similar times we recommend keeping them brief.  We realize hot showers feel glorious when it’s cold outside but running out of hot water when it’s cold outside is no fun.

Kitchen

As the condo is only 2 bedrooms the kitchen isn’t huge but we’ve tried to provide everything you’ll need.  We have all of the basics and even try to provide items such as condiments, oil, spices, coffee, coffee filters and more.  We try to provide the stuff you don’t want to buy when staying for just a few days.

Essentials in the kitchen:

  • Pots and pans
  • Cooking items like aluminum foil, saran wrap
  • Flatware
  • Plates and cups
  • Usually some plastic containers
  • Other items like wine and bottle openers, spatulas

Appliances:

The kitchen has a refrigerator, dishwasher (see manual), electric stove/oven/cooktop, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker.  We also have a mixer

Fireplace

The fireplace is wood burning so there’s no gas or on/off switch.  It’s a high efficiency fireplace so can take some time to get it roaring.  We recommend not closing the door until it’s really burning well.   We try to provide wood but don’t guarantee it as we can’t estimate how quickly it will get used.  If you decide to buy Duralog type products that’s fine but don’t combine that with real wood or it can become a smoky mess.  If the fireplace is still burning when you go to sleep or leave PLEASE make sure the door is closed and latched.

We have a lighter to use for the fireplace and we try to have some sort of firestarter kindling or wax squares to help you get it lit.

Bathrooms

Both bathrooms should have ample towels.

We have two bathrooms….one upstairs and one downstairs.  The downstairs bath has a vanity with a separate shower and toilet area.  The downstairs is a full bath with a tub but again keep in mind that filling the tup will empty most of the 40 gallon water heater so we would advise not to fil the tub and then take multiple showers.

The downstairs bathroom has a heater (in the shower section) with a timer on the wall.  The heater works well but please try to set the timer to an appropriate amount of time

The upstairs bathroom is a 3/4 bath and has a shower but no tub.  Our owners closet is to the right and is filled mostly with stuff for the cleaners so that’s what’s behind the mystery door.

We try to provide hotel size shampoos, conditioners and soaps.  We also provide a hair dryer.

TVs and entertainment

We have 3 TV’s in the condo.  There is a flat screen in the living room with Tivo as well as TVs in both the upstairs and downstairs bedroom.  Every once in a while someone will change the input on the living room TV.  If this happens select the input button on the Tivo remote (should be the only remote needed).  There are some recorded shows (we can’t control what people have recorded!) that you can access by hitting the top button on the remote and then select recorded shows.  Otherwise hit the guide button to access the channel lineup.

For a link to the TV lineup click here.

We also have a DVD player that’s connected to the living room TV and we have a number of movies in the coat rack cubbie near the front door.

We also have a number of games and puzzles in the coat closet outside the downstairs bedroom.

Garage and parking

We have a one car garage and it’s conveniently located at the bottom of our stairs.  It’s narrow but deep.  We’ve parked many an SUV in there so most fit but you may want to check the height if you have a rack or it’s really a tall car.  Although the garage isn’t heated the car is WAY warmer in the morning than if it is out on the street.

The door is manual so no automatic opener.  Simply pull it up or down.  It says 67 on the top.

If you do feel like parking on the street or have more than one car there’s usually plenty of street parking.

Please do not park in front of the garages unless actively loading and unloading.
